That map thing is cool, but I'm worried about the projection they use. It should really calculate it based on longitude and latitude lines, though that still has some weird effects. I think you would have to visit an infinite number of places to have the whole earth covered...
I am planning to redo my map with an equirectangular projection so that extreme latitudes and longitudes match up. I am also toying with the idea of changing the game to making the smallest-area polygon that encloses all the places one has been.
